Do any of you have any first hand experience with the Remington 30-06 180 grain Accutip boat tail bullet for elk hunting?

The reason I ask is that I recently bought several boxes of this particular ammo and it seems to shoot very well in one of my favorite rifles. Accuracy is very important but equally so is the bullet performance.

So what is your experience whether good or bad?

What does Remington say about the ammo? What sort of game did they intend it to be used on? It's similar to a Nosler Ballistic Tip bullet. It might be a bit soft for elk. Ask Remington.

The Accutip is a Hornady SST. When asked, the Hornady rep told me the 180 SST is not an elk bullet out of an -06. That said, I know people that have killed elk with it.

If you asked me what would be a REALLY bad setup for elk, I would suggest the .243 with the 95 grain SST.

Yet I have seen a big cow elk killed with one, so I guess it can be done. Shot placement and all that.

Still wouldn't recommend it

I'd pick a tougher bullet, like the 180 gr Interbond, 165 Interbond, TSX, Accubond, Partition....
