What type of extractor options exist for the .223 size bolt face? Factory, Sako, M-16, Mini M-16?

The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.

Yes, those are all options. I would go with factory if possible then the M16 if factory was not an option.

I have had very few problems with the factory extractor on 223 size bolt faces but if that is not an option, damaged bolt, etc.go with the M-16, a much better option than the Sako style.

Never had a problem with the factory extractor on my 700's, but they seem to work especially efficiently on the .223 bolt face rounds. That would be my choice. I've had several gunsmiths advise against considering the Sako route and only a few who like the M16 pieces.

Yes an M-16 works nicely on a .223. The only good thing about a Sako is they are very easy to install but not really a safe thing to do. The stock extractor can work very well. What is your incentive to change it?

My son's friend has a rifle he picked up that has a worn extractor because the kid before him shot tons of Wolf steel cased ammo. The rifle is very accurate but just will not extract fired cases, it barely pulls live rounds from the chamber. It's a newer rifle with the new style extractor without the rivet so I'll probably just put a factory extractor in for the kid.

Consider giving the chamber a very thorough cleaning. The lacquer coating can build in the chamber and cause issues with extraction
