I did the Wyatts in my SS BDL 300 Shamu. I like all but the gap at the end of the factory follower. Is there a 3" follower to use that is shaped like the factory, but a little longer? If this is of no concern, let me know.

Wyatt's makes a follower for Remington's.

Unless there is a new one, the flat follower for the centerfeed is the only one I`m aware of. I have heard of using Ruger followers. Anything to that?

I`ve but 1. But want it to be good to go. Thinking of giving the 7 Shamu Ti the Wyatts mod. Sounds like no reason to pause.

Depends on twist rate, throat geometry, bottom metal and capacity desired.

I can do all of them things,at 2.800"(and have/do).

One can also go HS DBM and reap multi rewards.................

Why is there so much fuss about a short action anyway? I`m building a 7saum in a rem 700 long action just to get the extra case cap. and to seat bullet at the neck shoulder junction to avoid donut... I chose the rem over win cause I feel the remmy is more efficient. longer neck, less powder-more bbl life. I also hear they feed better in a 700 action than the wsm does. This will be a long range target rifle, I`m getin a custom tight neck reamer made for it. I hope the brass is as good as some pepole say it is....

So stick what velocities were you able to pull from those configurations. I've got a perfectly good 7mm rem mag mag,but the .280 AI has appeal. I just can't warm up to the short mags.

If the HS short action DBM set is like the long action you wont gain squat in the COL department. Been there, done that.

Ay big stick, if I`m just dreamin, theres a lot of folks liein about the velocity they`re getin with the 7saum. I just read a post from a guy in UK that gets 2980fps with 180vdl&62.3grs Rl25 coal 3.1". Maybe you just wasnt getin hot enouph . Lots of guys get 3000+ with the wsm. The extra capacity you get with longer freebore will git ya more velocity. Thats why I`m not useing the 7maggie... 3.1" 7saum will fit in my mag. Also, no more stupid belt to **** with. No firefomin brass either

I can't for the life of me imagine running 180's out of a shorty 7 at 3K.

With the 7 wsm I am working with presently running 69 of R25 it is running 3037 fps and that is red line and too much. it definately needs to be dropped back a grain and or two.

From where I stand out of a 7 wsm much over 2950 is gonna be pretty much top end for the sane loaders of the world.

I also know that one can pretty make a round do whatever you want to make it to do.

Heck I once ran a 63 VW Bug to about 90 mph and just outside of Forsyth Mt it blew the engine.

There is lesson in there for those red liners of the world that are willing to listen. Problem is most won't and most won't let their ego get out of the way and so they push their pet round to places it shouldn't go.

I was just going with what I`ve read in the past, your right about not pushin a round past its limit. What I`m curious about though is if your going with a 22-24" sporter bbl or a 28-32" match target bbl. I`de guess there could be an increase of 100+fps with the longer bbls...I`m starting with the 168SMK`s anyway and I`ll be kinda shocked if I can`t get 3000fps to shoot good through a 28"7.5Broughton5c 1:9 twist.

I got a good word to speak about the brass. I went to the sprt. gds. store today and found some 7saum brass, took it home and wieghed & measured it and it`s good stuff... 50cs, 2.227-2.231 and 90% was within 1.5gr 10% was one less. Thats better than the norma 6br fodder Ive got in the past!
