So I stop in a hole in the wall rural gun shop there is a winchester 100 in 308. It is a pre 64 excellent condition looks like it has been used very little. The recall was done. Paid $400 for it. For some reason always wanted one. Going to use it for north woods minnesota deer. Those of you who have one can you direct me on what factory ammo has worked best.

My Winchester 100s shoot any 150 or 165 grain factory load 2 MOA. I'd try Hornady American Whitetails.

Neat, always liked the looks of those rifles. I never really understood why the Remington semi autos Were more popular than these.

Mine's a post 64 in 308. It seems to shoot most any thing I've tried in it into a 1.5 to 2 inch group, with enough coming in around an inch to keep things interesting. There are a few tricks to dissembly that you want to pay attention to and videos on U tube that clearly show how it is done. I liked my 308 so much, when one showed up in 284, I grabbed it too. Kind of keeping my eye out for a 243 now.

I have one, it's a pre 64 in .308 Win. This was my fathers rifle, he gave it to me. He always used Winchester ammo 150 grain bullet. I think he liked those ole silver tips. If I can remember that rifle shot about 1-1/2" at 100 yards.

I need to get this gun out and shoot it some. He never did the recall, the rifle has always worked well.

My Grandfather left my brother a pre-64 in 308. Sadly it's the biggest piece of [bleep] I've ever run across. It does not function and cannot be made to function, it's literally been to every 100 "specialist" in the country. Most will not touch it anymore. It james constantly and is inaccurate to boot.

Very troublesome as its a cherished family heirloom. We often joke that we wish he was still alive as he would smash it over a rock and throw it in Lake Superior and replace it with a bolt gun.

I've been told on several occasions that some would work and some didn't, and the latter could not be corrected.
