Hey guys, I'd like to upgrade the grip on my new rifle. I don't like the big plastic piece under the grip. I've been following the AR challenge and just wondering what you guys prefer for a real comfortable grip while shooting in an even like this. Could mean shooting off the bench or in the prone position off bags or bi-pod. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

I have MagPul's with the rubber over mold on all of mine.
I've used Hogue's, Ergo's, A1's and a few others and it really comes down to personal choice.

I prefer Magpul's K2 grip for prone shooting; it's a little more vertical than most, which is helpful for prone positions.

Magpul's MOE +, yes that is the one I use, just couldn't remember what it was called.
I would like to try the K2 though.

Which one is thicker, the K2 or K2+?
The thicker one is the only way to go.

The thicker one is the only way to go. I'm glad you guys brought that one up. I've been eyeballing the K2+, since I have pretty big hands.

The thicker one is the only way to go. The + version is rubber coated, the standard K2 is just hard plastic; i don't think there's any real difference in thickness. You're probably thinking of the K vs K2 difference. The K grip is a thin small grip for sbr/pistol applications. The K2 is thicker, very similar to the MOE but a more vertical angle.

Oh, gotcha.
K2 then is what I much prefer, rubber or not is cool by me.
The skinny one sucks.

The + version is slightly thicker, I think but it's not by much. I have both & they are pretty close to my feel anyway.

I appreciate the help guys. To be honest, I put a Hogue rubberized grip on it the other day. I haven't even tried it out at the bench yet. I don't want to rule it out yet, just trying to see if there may be something better that you guys prefer. I am very happy with the extended rubber magpul recoil pad I installed last night too. I have one on order for my ACS stock as well... Here's the victim with the new rubber grip and extended recoil pad: I think she's looking pretty good and love the way it shoots. I'll be running some new loads with FC brass for the next AR challenge submission..

Here's a K2..............not a great pic to really see the grip angle perfectly, but you can easily see the difference between it & your Houge.

I like that. Looks great. I'd probably opt for the K2+ since it's a rubberized grip. I may end up buying one, and then taking it to the range and swapping it out to see which one I prefer. Thanks for posting..

On the bench and bags I can get away with even the skinny issue type grip as long as I pay attention to consistent trigger finger placement. The wider fore and aft designs help me with putting my finger pad where I want it on offhand and field positions. Don't shoot much prone but think I'm going to work on it more.

I used the Magpul k2 for a few years with no real complaints. I swapped all of mine when BCM brought out their mod3 as it's about 1/4" wider then most of the hard plastic grips but not so fat as the hogues etc. but I have meat hooks for hands so that's why I prefer the mod 3
