Oil is back down in the $50 range. I guess the market makers in New York are not as scared anymore. After all, they do control the price. Do you seriously believe that if Oil Companies controlled the price that it would be coming down? They were a nice scapegoat for a while but now it is time to get back to the real culprits...........the futures traders.

there are lots of factors that go into the price of the oil and gas ... one of them is simple stock supply of the oil companies ... when they get a surplus and have more oil to "harvest", they need to move the oil out of storage because it can become more costly to find a place to store the new oil coming in ... so they lower the price per barrel of oil, and consequently the gas prices lower due to lower production cost. Now, that's way over-simplified ... but like I said, there are MANY factors that go into the price of our gas ... and frankly I don't really concern myself with the "why" when the prices are dropping ... Gas prices dropping? Where are the cries, "It's George Bush's fault!"

Hell we make the stuff up here and are still paying to much. Last price I saw was $2.19 a gallon. Not only that, our gas has the lowest taxes per gallon, so we should have cheap gas. Just filled up the truck at lunch, diesel is $2.59 a gallon and $60 wasn't quite enough to fill the tank I got it as diesel is supposed to be more fuel efficient

Rocky,
Don't you know it's just an evil plot by Bush to gain support for the troop surge?

I went from spending $35 per tank to over $65 per tank in less than 6 months. If gas ever drops under $2.00 a gallon you can bet your butt i'll be stocking up on it.

Stop whining.....yesterday I filled up my car with Texaco/Chevron regular unleaded for a mere $2.77 a gallon, diesel was just $3.09. the fine liberal state of Washington gets 34.5 cents a gallon for tax and the feds have their hands out for 18 cents. 52.5 cents in tax for gasoline. We also have a .03 cent a gallon tax on the way. Thank you Seattle.....azz holes.

Thank the Saudi's. It's a very complicated situation. On one hand, the U.S. is attempting to quell a Sunni insurgency in Iraq. On the other hand, Saudi Arabia is almost exclusively populated by Sunni Muslims. Iran is almost entirely made up of Shiite Muslims,.. who, for the most part, hate the Sunnis. SO,.... Even though the U.S. went into Iraq to rid it of the Sunni's who controlled it, Saudi Arabia is now bribing them to stay in Iraq (by maintaining high oil output, keeping prices low) so that their Sunni brothers in Iraq won't suffer genocide at the hands of Iranian and Iraqi Shiites,..whom Bush has put in control of Iraq. lolol,.... what a mess! Here's a good article on the matter. http://www.energybulletin.net/23410.htmlAn excerpt: The thrust of the message, however, is a thinly veiled warning to the US not to walk away from Iraq. Obaid quotes the Saudi Ambassador who said last month: "Since America came into Iraq uninvited, it should not leave Iraq uninvited." And Obaid adds, "If it does, one of the first consequences will be massive Saudi intervention to stop Iranian-backed Shiite militias from butchering Iraqi Sunnis." The key Saudi foreign policy objective at the minute clearly is to keep sufficient US military forces in Iraq to keep the lid on the situation for as long as it takes to keep the mess from spilling over into Saudi Arabia itself. Could a major cutback in Saudi oil production bring down America? Maybe not, but it sure could do a lot of harm. The most blatant action would be cut their oil production in half. Taking 4-5 million barrels a day off the world oil market would get everybody's attention very quickly. Oil prices would certainly go well over $100 per barrel. In short order, the US and world economies would suffer greatly. To sum up,.... as long as the U.S. stays in Iraq protecting Saudi Arabia and Iraqi Sunni's from the Shiites that the U.S. invasion empowered, Saudi Arabia will keep oil output high and oil prices low. If (when) Bush pulls out of Iraq, the Saudi's will cut production and send oil prices through the roof.

I got you Bristoe, so the drop in prices IS Bush's fault. Thanks for clearing that up. You guys crack me up.
I thought when they went up before it was all the Big Oil conspiracy with Bush. Now when they go down it's the Saudi conspiracy with Bush. I think it's really that old conspiracy between supply and demand, with a healthy dose of speculation thrown in.
