Just saw on the news here in the Seattle area that the elk herds in Sequim are becoming a "nuisance." the mayor is proposing that F&G hire "sharpshooters" to control populations. residents weren't thrilled with that idea, however. the newscaster stated that the population of people in the area has doubled in the last 4 years and the elk are just using their established routes of travel but are now "encroaching" on people's space.

Its no surprise to me. In Oregon, they have hired gov. agents to "control" the cougar population, Sounds like bear is next. Why should elk be a special "big game " animal?
Seems to be the trend with Game dept.s to lean towards government agents to kill I mean manage game populations, The non hunting public finds this more palitable to have "professionals" managing game, than to have "sport"hunters killing trophies.

The residents whined and got the WDFW to issue permits to kill some Elk in Sequim.

I have a couple buddies that drew tags and found it impossible to gain permission to hunt said Elk.

I guess when the fine residents of Sequim found out the permits allow you to actually kill the Elk,they didn't like it so much anymore.

The property owners up there want the elk gone but dont want them shot. They want the state to pay and have the elk relocated somewhere else.
