Take you back 112 years to thoughts on long range hunting. 1200-1300 yards killing range with 25-35? Hmm.

Being able to kill something at that range and being able to hit something with rifles, sights, and cartridges of the day are 2 different things. I remember seeing on the boxes of 22 cartridges back in the day "Range 1 Mile". At such a young age, I was amazed at that, as I thought it meant that people were actually hunting at that distance with them...lol.

Killing distance estimate was made by the editor of an outdoor magazine. Recreation, or Outers, or something along those lines. Not made by Savage. Savage would have simply said that their bullets shot through 40" of pine and had a point blank range of 200 yards with iron sights.

Many times dealers made these wild claims and the company just had to live with it..

I guess that's why you see express sights on old British rifles, even doubles, marked out to 1,200 yards :-)
