The factory bedding is beautifully done and painted. The problem is that they are bedded to a slave action rather than each individual action. It may work out well or it may not. The factory bedding does however make skim bedding an easy job. Just grind out enough to make sure your bedding won't be too thin and so it will adhere well.

Excellent thread, thanks. Brad did a good job with that post. I was a bit apprehensive to do my first bedding job on my Montana but the thread helped me do a good job. Mine greatly benefited from bedding. Many of the inconsistencies I had thought were due to shooting such a light rifle mysteriously went away when I bedded it.

I typically shoot the Kimber first, just to get a benchmark as to what it can do before I bed it. The last 300WM was so accurate, I left it alone. But most of the time a little skim bedding helps with consistency.
My home is the "sanctuary residence" for my firearms.
