Maybe I am weird but I like gloss scopes with gloss bases and rings on a polished blued rifle. I ended up ordering a gloss FX-2 6x36 scope from the Leupold Custom Shop to get what I wanted. I had also ordered some gloss Leupold QD rings and 2 piece bases but when they arrived I didn't like the way the rear base protrude over the ejection port so I returned them to SWFA. I ended up going with the Talley bases and their QD rings with levers. Hopefully I will now have my perfect all-around rifle for North America and Africa (short of Elephant and Buffalo). I don't really see using the QD feature often but at lest if I am going to some far off place I can have a backup scope ready to go all sighted in and in another set of rings. As an aside the guy I ordered from at Leupold said that they are getting more and more calls requesting gloss scopes.

Agree on gloss for such rifles. My Browning-like original FN Mauser 30-06 wears gloss for for the same reason.

I'm with you 101%. I recently picked up a Ruger 77 Carbine .358 with that nice "'80s" polished blue. I had an older Leupold gloss that I sent back for a reticle change. They informed me the scope was too old for the upgrade and offered a new VX3i in exchange but that it would be matte. I thanked them for the offer but declined because I'd have not been happy with a matte on that gun. The good folks in Oregon then offered to build the gloss scope I wanted in the custom shop for the cost of a reticle swap! Should be here next month.

Pacecars: My Browning "High Power" in caliber 222 Remington Magnum looks REAL GOOD with a Leupold gloss finish straight 8 power scope on it!
I "grew up" using gloss finished scopes (Leupold, Redfield etc) and they do not offend me at all - I do though prefer matte finished scopes on my Big Game Rifles.

SCGunNut: Good for Leupold & Stevens Company - going out of their way to make ONE of their millions of customers happy!
Long live Leupold & Stevens an AMERICAN Company!

Those Browning's are some nice rifles. Gloss looks good on them. I just put a gloss M8 4X on my P64 Featherweight. I think it looks right..
