I'm with S99VG--bid what YOU think it's worth and then let things work out. I guess since I'm not a collector, I never HAVE to have anything at any cost.
I just got back from Jalisco and noticed that even some Mexicans are starting to realize that not everyone loves to dicker and bicker--saw several stores with "Precios Fijos." One of them had a little sign that also said, more or less "This is our price; pay it and have a nice day!" Creeping gringoism....some of us "cold northerners" just don't need any extra drama (Those of us of the Scottish persuasion regard parting with ANY money as a damn' tragedy anyway....).

So was a 99G? 22" takedown barrel in 30-30 worth more than $300 in used but decent shape? Should I have kept bidding???

Depends. It might have been if you had a take down G needing a barrel, and then I'd expect it would take a little fitting. And then too I'd weigh the cost of the barrel against what the said rifle would sell for after the cost of the barrel, fitting and original cost of the non barreled assembly were factored in. If I didn't have the rest of the rifle then I would say that you are money ahead in letting the other guy take the auction.

I would have quit bidding long before the $300 mark, unless the bore were minty and I had $200 or less in the rest of the gun. Under those conditions I would go $300 but not any more. Decent barrels turn up with enough regularity for me to wait 'em out. Anybody got a nice .250 TD barrel?

Yes, but it's on my minty 250 300 rifle, Joe.
I'm not greedy, I just want one of each.
