Actually Cliff, I think we already have it. It's no possible to stave in this country with the EBT, there's housing free or almost, you cannot be turned away from a hospital ER, so free medical, so many government programs that the well to do can qualify for some of them.

It already exists in this country, based on who/what you are there are free programs galore. Zuckerberg is worth 62 billion dollars, he's welcome to add to the program anytime he feels charitable.

So does Universal Basic Income imply that there will also be Universal Basic WORK? I expect not. It will simply mean that those now content to stay on welfare will stay on welfare. Welfare at least has the phony notion that you are "looking for work".
Vladimir I. Lenin claimed, "One of the basic conditions for victory of socialism is the arming of the workers (Communists) and the disarming of the bourgeoisie (the middle class)."

It's an interesting topic, but ONLY if you remove all existing social welfare programs.
Give every family poverty level money. Then remove all other social programs to benefit the poor, after all now EVERYONE is at the poverty level.
In that model ANY job, even minimum wage, puts you above poverty level, so what's your next excuse for struggling?
would never happen, you'd get support for adding it, but never for removing the other side.

Sure. Everyone is entitled to the same basic income: $0. They have to work for the rest. Tom

Terrific idea...politicians and media should try it first to see how it works.

Well, universally, if you basically get a job, you have an income.

Problem with anything like this, in addition to not forcing people to earn a friggin living, is that the Democrats would simply promise to raise the universal income level every single election.

Many years ago I asked my grand father how he managed to feed a wife and two kids in the Oklahoma pan handle during the Dust bowl and Depression. He thought a minute and replied, "Well boy starvation is inspirational!"

About a quarter of the country is already getting the "Universal Basic Income". I get to see how they're devoting their freed up time to the arts every time I get behind them buying beer, rolling papers & Doritos.

Zucker isn't talking about welfare-levels of UBI. Pretty sure he means $15/hr+ minimum wage level of UBI. Also probably means working or not.

Good comments, rumors about "Z" running for President........God help America if he won.......not sure we can survive another Socialist.
Not sure where I read it, but $20,000 figure comes to mind. Regardless, don't we taxpayers all love the word "Free?"
