Howdy gents! Sitting on a chit pile of 240 xtp mags. I'm aware these are designed for the casulls higher velocity and thats where I've used them over the years. Hornady says they will begin to open around 1100 fps. I dont see any reason why 1400+ cant be safely reached in large framed ruger. Got piles of H110 here. Anyone have a recipe? I'm thinking max load is in the 27 range in the heavier built rugers?

If you go to http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/pistol you'll see H110 data I have used for Sierra's 240 JHC in 'Ruger Only' 45 Colt loads. That data is NOT interchangeable with any other bullet, but I've called Hodgdon's with similar inquiries and they've always been helpful when I had a question about subbing another bullet, etc. Give them a call and I'll bet they can get you on the right track with the 240 Mag XTP.

Use Hodgdons 250 XTP data as a guide DEFINITELY over the 240 Sierra data and you're probably looking at 1400-1425 tops on the chrony and call it good, assuming the barrel length is 7.25 inches.

Hornadys actually mike the full .452 and have hit full speed with less powder than Sierras, Noslers and Speers.

Yeah 1400 would be a solid load. Thats exactly what I was going to do, follow the 250xtp load if no one had a proven load to work up to. I'm a hardcast guy for hunting anyway, but just feel the need to burn some powder. Thanks for the advice

1400+ can definitely be reached with that boolit in the Ruger Super Blackhawk. IIRC, I duplicated the load that was published some years ago that pushed the 250 gr XTP to 1500 fps in a 7.5" SBH..

Yeah I've tinkered good bit with the 250 xtp. Is a fine hunting round out of the colt for light skinned animals. Always seemed to be a little tougher to find at times than the 240 mags though. Care to pm the load your talking about redneck? Thanks

I've always used John Linebaugh article , The 45 Colt, Dissolving the Myth, Discovering the Potential. It covers all my needs and then some whether jacked or cast.
