I had never had this bad of a problem before but here in N Ca the moths are swarming at night.

It's single porch light with a globe that only needs a 60w or so equivalent light bulb. It has a florescent bulb in it right now and moths are drawn to it like flies on schit. eek

What works best?

You need one of the yellow bug bulbs. They make them in LED now.

Build a moth trap and help your bee keeping neighbors. It will work on lots of moths not just wax moths. miles

Take a 2 litre plastic pop bottle and drill a 1 inch hole just below the slope on the neck, then add
1 cup water,
1 cup sugar,
1 half cup vinegar
1 banana peel
Wait a few days till it starts to ferment, then tie it into a tree close to the hives. This trap will draw the wax moth, they enter the hole can't get out and drown in the liquid, this will even draw in and kill the bald faced hornet.

Look out for number 1, don't step in number 2.

Try an LED light bulb. We sell LED landscape lighting and accordingly by what our manufacturer's rep tells me, LED's won't attract bugs because they are drawn to the heat, not the light. LED's don't get hot. I'm not sure if that's true, but it sounds good.

LED lights get warm but not too hot to touch.

In the distant past of my youth, I remember the spring ritual of Dad hauling up the screen windows from the basement, exchanging them for the storm windows, taking the storm windows to the basement, unscrewing the light bulb from above the back door, replacing it with a yellow bulb, and for the grand finale, attaching the baseball backstop to the front of the car.

What about them new bug zapper light bulbs as seen on tv? (Not available in stores) and if you order now, get two amazing bulbs for the price of one!

I mean, they look like a great idea. If they really work? Just curious. Anyone tried them?

Bug zappers work great. They attract even more bugs to your door.

Oh, no.

All my flood lights are LED and they are akin to a bug orgy at night. Light draws them in.

And they do nothing for biting bugs like mosquitos, which are drawn to co2 (your breath)
I like the wasp trap idea.

So hang them on the corner of the garage.
