The change over to S/S # had to happen in 1967, as when I got out in Oct. 67, it was a done deal!!

Finally got in, but was told my info was missing. I guess I'm done with that site, don't think I will be missing all that much, And don't want to spend the time necessary to save a couple of bucks.

Remember; quite a few got out as reserves. Yea, hated that , spent 5 years active then final discharge came from the reserves.

I have two sets of dog tags. One with my service number and the other with my Social Security number. I can't remember the exact time that they changed over but it was 1968-1969. I have a paper copy of my DD214 but also on the advice of someone that I can't remember filed it at the courthouse. miles Yea was at the Social Security office, they asked for my service number so I rattled if off. They looked up and said that's not enough digits . Told them they asked for my service number not my SSAN.

I went in 1968 and got out in 77 I had a service number.
They want a copy of my DD214 to confirm my type of discharge.

I see they want ones social security number. Not something I like to hand out on line. I'd think they'd be more inclined to want one's service number. Me too. It asked for my last four on the social. I gave that and they countered with "records can't be found". They came back and asked for the entire number. I backed out.

Well, this might be a good deal for some, but I have to wonder about how much business they will actually get. The days of screaming bargains at the PX are long gone, everything is priced about the same as down town, and no Walmart junk available, only top quality and top brands. We shop there a little but only because it is handy and we don't have to pay sales tax, which is great if you are buying a new TV or some such. Yep. The Exchanges, staffed by Gov't (non) workers have become the perpetual self-licking ice cream cone. Their pay and benefits continue to increase, so do the prices. Jorge has a perpetual hard-on for Government workers (even when they aren't). AAFES is a non-appropriated funds activity within DoD. They generate their own revenue and pay their own salaries. AAFES employees are NOT Civil Servants.

Uploaded mine just now. When I did I noticed someone had blacked out my SSN with a marker. Wonder if that will make any difference ? It accepted it so I guess we'll know in a couple of days.
