I had been noticing for about 3 years that trees about some of my favorite hunting areas were dying. Not all mind you but certain spots. Finally figured out earlier this year the culprit was per above. In the areas I hunt where deciduous trees are prevalent I don't think you can walk through an acre of woods without finding the evidence of their destructive ways. Turns out they have been around since 2002 started Wisconsin Michigan way only bother Ash trees which they say are 1 in 50 trees in Appalachian forests. What are you noticing in the areas you hunt Attached there is a link to the Map of infested areas. I will try to post some images of the trees that have been infected. https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ou...ams/pests-and-diseases/emerald-ash-borerGood Luck and shoot straight all. Bob

They've totally destroyed my favorite Morel mushroom hunting areas. I'm talking honest 80' to 100' Ash trees gone. Wiped out the only grove I had on my place.

Mostly spread by guys hauling firewood to new areas. The insect, if not transported will usually live and in a relatively small area. When the ash trees are gone, the borer population will collapse, since their only food source is ash. I've lost several trees, but have managed to save one really large specimen by using a Bayer product once a year. The treatment is much too expensive for general use.

They are killing all the ash on my place. I can't cut enough of the standing dead ash to keep up. The state DEC expects them to completely kill off the ash in 10-15 years AKA American Chestnut.
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

I heard just yesterday that there is some kind of preventative that you can inject the tree with that will protect it. I have a darn big Ashe tree on my place that I would like to save.

We have some ash trees, and I like to use both white, and black ash lumber. I dread the trees dying. I have also heard of treating the ash, I understand it is quite expensive.

My Mom was looking to log out some of the mature trees in a woods she owns. She had a Forester go thru and mark the trees he recommended for removal. He recommended removing every Ash tree she had that was still alive because he said it is inevitable all will die due to the Ash Borer.

They killed all seven of the Ash trees on my 22 acres, as well as all of the ones on the neighboring properties as far as I can tell; most are still standing with the bark falling off.
Across the river, in West Virginia, the only standing Ash trees on my brother's 400 acres are dead. I've never seen anything like it.

The Dutch elm disease took most all the elm trees over forty years ago. I'm sorry to think the ash trees will meet the same fate.

The ash lumber will be scarce, have it sawn.

It was about 50 miles northeast of us two years ago. I had the big ash in my front yard treated for $250 and it's due to be treated again. A small price to pay for a tree that provides shad on the whole front of our house! I would hate like hell to lose that tree.

My green ash trees in NW ND still look good. Hope the vermin can't take the cold.

oldtrapper, better get ready for them, if they have been found in Northern MN I'd hazard a guess they will be in ND in a few years. https://www.aphis.usda.gov/plant_he.../downloads/NewCountyDetectionMap2017.pdfGeno

We've been dealing with them in WI for a while now. Most of the ash on our hunting property is in a bad way at best. FWIW, avoiding tansporting wood from one place to another seems to have slowed things up at least.

We have/HAD ten acres of beautiful hardwoods here on the home place; hard maple/beech/and ash. Approx 1/3 each species. It WAS a beautiful woods. That damnable EAB has killed many of the white ash already and is in the process of finishing the rest. We had to have 16 big ash trees taken down safely around the house and barn. Lots of $$$$ to have that done. Also has the very $$$$ RX done for two big, beautiful white ash near the garage and back yard, 60-80 ft high. Antibiotic injections under the bark in the spring and "special" fertilizer 2X year. We tried it for two years and it was clear those trees were still dying. We are told that they ALL will die, once infested.
