A champion matador was killed in France Saturday when a bull gored him during a fight.

Ivan Fandino was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to reports.

The 36-year-old Spanish national was fighting in Aire Su L’Adour, a city in southwestern France.


Photos of the scene showed Fandino stabbed in the right side by the bull’s horn and thrown in the air.

Other matadors were seen holding Fandino up as he winces in pain.

Fandino was an award-winning bullfighter.

Fandino started bullfighting when he was 14, and has won multiple awards over the last decade.

Reports say that the Bull's left horn penetrated the Matador's anus and was buried up to the skull. The undertaker is reportedly unable to remove the smile from the deceased's face.

GMAFB. Are you serious? Do you know what they do to these animals prior to the "Dance"? Obviously, you don't. The deck is stacked heavily against the animal. Fortunately, most always, the meat is consumed at the end. "Bull Fighter" isn't quite an accurate description of a Matador. Piercing the heart of the bull, through the shoulder blades, after an extended blood letting, and weakening of the animal, is the goal. No doubt there is still a lot of danger in what they do. But I don't feel a damn bit sorry for one that the animal gets the best of, before it is destroyed.

Bulls have to win once in a while.

I don't have a problem, either. That's a Spanish tradition, and I think they are entitled to it. I was just trying to make a laugh, when someone got bent out of shape. I think they know the risks, when they enter the ring. Hard for me to feel bad when the animal wins.

Kind of like when a race car driver dies, I guess?

These guys dress up in these little colorful suits, and they torture these innocent animals to death.
It is a sick event that would be illegal in any civilized society.
I am fresh out of sympathy for bullfighters.

I witnessed a similar goring resulting in death in Mexico City in 1996.

They killed the bull anyway.

Not just the guy in the picture either...

Spaniards explained bullfighting to me this way. This breed would be extinct if not for the ring. They are aggressive and not tops for meat production. No one would breed them. as it is, the bred continues, they get top care, training, facilities and instead of going straight to the slaughter house, they get a day in the ring. The greatest bulls are spared and used for stud. The meat is served in selected restaurants. Beats being extinct.
