Am going to rebarrel a 270. Who has equipment to check specs on receiver and bolt? Do they need any work generally?

Rick, maybe check with Kevin Weaver. I am not sure what special tools would be needed for a Kimber that wouldn't be needed for another rifle. He was a good dude and treated me right on my last build.
