......to .240 Wby

Any reason why this wouldn't be a good idea?

Suggestions for barrel makers with the 84L contour on file?

Cheers.

The case head sizes are different. The 240 uses the same bolt as 30-06, not belted magnum.

Errr.....yeah, I know. The 84L in question is a well used .25-06 Classic Select. The belted magnums are built on the 8400 action.

I have the opportunity to pick up a 2nd Classic Select in .25-06 as new for cheap, so I was thinking about rebarreling my original 84L to .240Wby.

There are no reasons I could find. I didn't go forward with it, but when my .280AI 84L Montana failed to deliver the accuracy I wanted reliably, .240 Wby was an option I looked into pretty seriously along with 6mm-06 6.5-'06AI, and 7x57. I wound up selling the rifle instead.

7mmMagnum,

Pac-Nor was the only company which would match the very slim contour of my Weatherby Mark V six lug action .25-06 barrel. I called at least half a dozen or more. Not only that I asked if they would add a couple inches in length. "No problem. We'll make 28" if you want."

Thanks TOM, I can't really think of any reasons not to either. Be no different pressure-wise to any of the other long action cartridges available in the 84L.

Thanks Ringman, Pac-Nor is definitely on the list & it appears Lilja also do Kimber contours but not sure about the 84L contour.

Rock Creek will turn a Mountain Rifle contour, don't know about the 84L. I've sure had good luck with them too.

Don't mean to take the thread far off topic, but if you're looking for a high speed cartridge on a 30-06 case head, you might consider a 6.5 Gibbs. Long forgotten and very underestimated, but a very high performance cartridge on a widely available, inexpensive case.

Appreciate the suggestion but i already have a 6.5x284 built on a Winny Featherweight so that'll do me for a 6.5, plus i already have 100 rounds of .240Wby factory ammo sitting here looking for something to do so that's the direction I'm heading in i think.

I would go with the 6mm-06 due to 25-06 brass be much less expensive and Pac-Nor is the only way to go in a barrel with the exact contour of you factory barrel

Cheers, but as i mentioned i already have 100 rounds of. 240Wby ammo sitting here.

Am looking at Lilja and Pac-Nor, probably go with Lilja as they seem to be easier to get here in Australia.
