Thank you Buzz! Glad to see your still around! I was getting there with my post but wanted to see where he applied first and where he lives.

Speaking of the WY Grizzlies any word on when seasons may begin?

They also want the non res to pay the trespass fee on private property. As a resident I can visit with the property owner now (had I drawn a tag), develop a friendship with him and not have to pay the fee.

If I'm gonna pay all the fees and plan a hunt within my own state, I my as well go to TX and kill pigs. Pound per dollar per hour it is about the same.

WGFD has its faults, but my god...you're quite delusional here...

It is true that tags that were guaranteed 5 years ago for your first choice are not even guaranteed for your 2nd or even 3rd choice these days, but there's still plenty of opportunity...cow elk tags especially have been cut way down in the Wyoming Range but plenty of tags are still available elsewhere in the state.

Where are you at? Even if you're in Jackson, you're well within 400 miles of areas with leftover buck antelope tags and at least some public land.

I drew my 3rd choice buck antelope tag east of Rawlins, and an extra cow elk in 104. No doe antelope for me for the first time since at least 2012, though I am in for the 2nd draw. General deer and elk.

First off - I'm not retired or independently wealthy. That means that I have limited time to scout/hunt.
I live 40 miles N of Cody, 1.7 miles S of the MT line. While the 400 miles number was meant to be an exaggeration, I see some took it seriously.
My rant about res vs non res was just that a rant - lighten up, you guys have NO sense of humor!!
Buzz, I don't know how you're getting all those tags, unless your saying that if I drew everything that I was eligible for. Even then I'm seeing a hard time getting multiple buck tags for deer/antelope. You show me how, I'll do it next year and shut my pie hole. I have never applied for or have no desire for lion and wolf - I imagine they taste bad. No guarantees that there will be a wolf season either.
Antelope area 80 & 81. Deer 120 &121. These are from memory, I don't recall the other areas w/o looking them up. I didn't apply for elk tags this year because my horses are dead and I'm too old and fat to pack them out (that's humor again, I'm 51, 5'8" 180 lbs - while I think my fighting weight is 165, I just can't seem to shed the excess).

Cowboybart,

The first thing you have to do is understand how the draw process works and also the statutes/regulations regarding how many tags you can have...go to the GF website and you'll find that.

Then, look over the draw odds...apply smartly and apply for 3 choices for deer and pronghorn. Don't waste a second choice on area where all the tags were taken by first choice applicants...same with third choice, don't waste time on an area that didn't have tags available for 3rd choice applicants.

Apply smartly for type 4, 6, and 7 elk tags...you can draw 2 in the initial draw, then pick up another in the leftover. Apply smartly for deer, think type 3 whitetail.

Utilize general elk, deer, bear, lion, turkey tags that can be purchased OTC.

Look at the leftover lists to get a second buck pronghorn tag, second buck deer license, more doe pronghorn and deer tags and additional antlerless elk.

Its not tough to do...and frankly, I don't have the time or freezer space to take advantage of all the easy opportunity Wyoming has to offer.

You may have to travel a bit, but opportunity abounds.

North central Wyoming...stopped by for a quick afternoon hunt on my way to hunt Montana for a deer hunt with my Dad and Brother.

Had a type-3 and general deer tag. Shot one, 2 more jumped out of the brush and filled my second tag.

More pronghorns on additional leftover buck tags, all from different units that I'd never hunted until the day I showed up.

Picked this tag up 2 weeks after they went on sale. Not bad for an additional buck.

Scouted a half day before the opener, best I found on public land, shot this one as the sun came up opening morning:

I live in Gillette, but I have never hunted that area for antelope. I would imagine that you will see plenty. If you dont have plans made yet, you might consider contacting game and fish and requesting the landowner contact list for the area as well as landowners who will allow hunting. It is two seperate lists. You will need to contact the Sheridan office to get the lists for Area 17. It is normally pretty reasonable to purchase access for an antelope hunt, which will allow you the time and the peace to have a fun hunt.

Shot these 2 about 30 seconds apart in 2013

Shot a cow first:

[Linked Image]

They had no idea what was going on and this bull walked out 30 seconds after I shot the cow...bad move on his part as I had a general tag to go with the type 6 cow tag.

[Linked Image]

Last year sort of "sucked" for elk hunting for me...had 3 tags only filled 2

But, really the elk season was a total success as I was able to help my 12 year old nephew kill his first elk...drew a type 6 as a NR. He was pretty darn happy.

I am assuming this was during that freak snowstorm on Oct 2-5ish of that year? I shot a young rag bull during that same snow storm in unit 98...during furlough of course...

I'd post a picture, but haven't figured out how to do that yet under the Mod's instructions. I'll sit down and figure that out here later today.
