9 July 1970, my best friend and War Brother, Gregory Alexis Dodge was KIA in an ambush. Went through many fights and battles with him. Saved each others asses several times. He has NEVER for one day since failed to enter my thoughts. Rest easy my Friend. You are never forgotten...by me. Jim

Fitting post, that you'll never forget him.... thank you for giving your fellow campfire members the opportunity to give him a toast, a salute of respect, and pray to the almighty that is he is in a place where he will be forever young, and know nothing but peace....
I think of July 9, 1970.... you were in Vietnam and losing your friend....
I was a month out of high school, doing who knows what the hell...
but it sure wasn't defending my country or serving it in Uniform, far from home...
I ask God to Bless you and for him to forgive me...

Thank you for remembering and also for sharing so that we can remember as well. Hopefully all who died have those who remember them specifically and that we remember all of them in general.
Not a real member - just an ordinary guy who appreciates being able to hang around and say something once in awhile.
Happily Trapped In the Past (Thanks, Joe)
Not only a less than minimally educated person, but stupid and out of touch as well.
We were on the firebase providing security while Greg's recon patrol was out. Listening to this song when the explosion from the gook claymore mine came.

EvilTwin, Seafire, Ingwe and others - excellent posts. Thanks. I am deeply grateful for Soldier Dodge, ET and others who so served. Turned 32 Y/O that day - had a lovely wife and 4 young daughters - was working hard and also enjoying all that you were fighting for. Then again, quite a number of my former students were over there with you and on my mind every day. Two are on the "wall" in D.C. and I visit/touch the names when I can get there.
"Grief" is a very short word, almost growled in it's pronunciation. Smarter people have figured out the emotions that course through you cannot be adequately explained except almost in volumes. So they say "grief" and try to carry on.
Thank you for your remembrance of a Soldier. Few people alive have this bittersweet place in their heart. Fewer still have the fierce joy of having a Brother like your in times like those. Lest We Forget.

RIP Soldier.
Jim,
There are some things that you just never forget, nor should you ever, either.
Thank God for men like ET and the friends he honors. I can't express in words the respect, love and greatfullness I have for our warriors and for the sacrifices made so that me and mine can sleep soundly under the flag of freedom.
May God bless our warriors and hold close those that went before. They will never be forgotten. I might not know their names but God does and every day I thank him for giving us such brave men. Your friends will never be forgotten in my house ET, they'll continue to live on in spirit and we will thank them daily.

Thanks for sharing. RIP Soldier Dodge. Dad lost a good buddy at Kasserine Pass. Dad's position was overrun by German armor, and a Dad's buddy died in his arms. They had shared a lot of good times, getting thrown out of bars all over the place. War has a nasty habit of seperating friends like this.
My deepest thanks to all those who served. My heartfelt prayers to those who didn't make it home.
Lo, There do I see my Father Lo, There do I see my Mother and My Brothers and my Sisters Lo, There do I see the line of my people back to the begining Lo, They do call to me They bid me take my place among them in the halls of Valhalla Where thine enemies have been vanquished Where the brave shall live Forever Nor shall we mourn but rejoice for those that have died the glorious death.
Your Brothers are never gone until none are left to remember. There are many of us left my friend!
