Very nice Ray. The Canon 400 5.6 is a great "budget" long lens.

Very nice Ray. The Canon 400 5.6 is a great "budget" long lens. It is a very sharp lens, and lightweight. I often shoot off-handed with it. When I bought it a few years ago the price was around $1,100. A couple more from the same Arctic ground squirrel family above: The little squirrel decided to move straight toward the camera, but I moved and it ran back to its mother: For the two landscapes above on one of my posts, I used a Canon 5DII and a Tokina 15-28mm f/2.8. I use the 7D for wildlife, and the 5DII for taking photos of the Auroras, landscapes, and such.

The colored slopes in the first landscape remind me of the Red Mountain area near Ouray, CO

Darn nice pictures . Do you think the full frame takes sharper pictures than the crop frame?

Not really. What a FF gives you is a larger sensor, and probably better performance relating to digital noise in low light. But I like cropped sensor cameras for wildlife since the longest lens I have is 400mm. Now, If I had a 600mm lens, then I would use it on the FF camera, and keep on using the 400 on the cropped sensor one, and that's a big maybe. For the photo of the colorful mountains (above), I used a FF camera, which I find very handy for landscape photography (a larger sensor covers a larger area). I could do the same with the 7D, but I would have to use a lens that is wider than the one of the 5DII. Since I have two cameras, I use the 5DII primarily for landscapes, and for taking photos of the Auroras using the same wide-angle lens. http://travelthroughpictures.com/photo-items/crop-full-sensors-zoom/

Thank you, Sitka Deer. The bird was quite small in size. I was about 40 feet away with a 400mm lens, and even so had to crop the photos to bring it closer.

Much appreciated, Ironbender
