these rifles have been around close to a decade now and, as i understand it, theyve been discontinued. new ones can be found now for around $800. they sold for $1,100 for a long time.
very similar platform to the 700P, but stainless steel, 24" barrel, 11.25 twist (for 175s, ostensibly). my example is fitted and finished as well as any 700 i have owned, and i have them dating back to the early 80s.
point being, i consider this to be a LOT of rifle for the money. if you're interested in something like this, get em before theyre gone.

I spoke with a Remington Public Relations rep. three or four months ago. He said the 5R 700s will remain in production, but Remington was way behind in manufacturing. Perhaps things have changed since then.

I had one for a while in .308. I paid a little over $1000 out the door 10 years or so ago.
Very accurate rifle, even with the crazy long throat.
Me and that stock just didn't agree, so I sold it. But I would agree, if you like the stock, that's a very good deal.

I have a 700 5R .308 win with a Nightforce scope. Very accurate but heavy, .5 moa all day long. I would not like to walk very far with it.

I've got one in 308. 4x14 Nightforce scope. Tack driver. Too heavy to carry through the mountains here. My 11.25 twist should have eat up the 175 but dine .3 groups with 180 Noslers bts
