This was originally published in 1989 and reads a lot like a historical piece. Sears catalog. Monkey Ward. No personal computers or cellphones.
But, it's a very good read. A bunch of guys decide to take over an independent launch ICBM missile silo holding a MIRV missile and launch against Russia. The missile supposedly has the ability to "decapitate" the Russian government and save the world.

As expected, the gov't isn't happy about this and launches an assault against the very well trained force that has taken over the silo. A titanium key safe is involved and a plasma torch. Aircraft, National Guard troops, Special Forces, hostages, civilians and Russian agents.

It's in paperback and a good read. A little over 400 pages.

It is actually one of his most believable story lines if you can thrust yourself backwards almost 30 years in technology. I found it to be among his best as far as following the premise. Sure more believable than "Earl" lying in waste in a coffin while Audie Murphy, Jordan, McGivern, and company arrived to save the day or other stories that require considerable "mind stretch" The Day Before Midnight story has some interesting twists while staying relevant for a 1980"s Doomsday book. Considering all the actual history that we have experienced it has remained in my mind for a couple of decades since I read it.

Read this one quite a few years ago, loved it. Excellent story and well worth reading.

I've read all his books, that is a good one.
