You always have one chambered? Including an hour before legal shooting hours walking to your stand in the dark? Or climbing up into your stand?

Or crossing a stream where the footing is sketchy?

This is a complaint with my 700 too.

Oh sweet Jesus - another "flicker".

Like I said, I havn't. But I don't like the possibility of it happening. I have always been of mind not to. But someday the monster will come in, hope I rememeber proper breathing and control exercises for taking the safety off.

Handled a Sako, safety came off nice. Savages are not bad either. I just not a huge fan of them, but I have 2.

Yep, that's how I choose a rifle. By the sound of the safety when you click it off.

It does show an eye for detail from the manufacturer.

Yep. I'd rather have a 9-lb rifle than a Montana, the safety is just too loud for me.

You're a youper, eh? Well, then this whole safety thing is an easy fix - simply move the bait pile further away. smile

If you hunt in the woods, it is hard to see more than 25 yards. I did some cutting last year, moved out to 100 yards. Just didn't like being so far away. I did it to give myself more freedom to move about, but like being up close.

I think you are trying to be smart or funny. But it fails, because pretty much all the manufactuers will make 30-06 rifle around 7-6.5lbs. I hope you didn't read some ad that told you this was the only one and you had to buy it.

Hell, 9lbs is on the heavy side of any rifle out there, short of miltary surplus or varmit rifles. Not to many 9lb rifles out there on the shelves.

So maybe you need to rethink your punch line.

I don't understand why some peopel get so upset on this topic. They work themselves into a tizzy. The mauser action was a milatary action. Noise wasn't an issue. Sako Black bear is control feed, but the safety is for hunters and quite. Not a mauser safety. I am not sure the internal mechanics.

I like the idea of gitant thumb safety. But it needs to be done with a company that cares about what it produces, down to ever level. Just an eye for detail, some lack.

I can't believe Zerk is from Wisconsin. They're usually so bright.

I am a Yooper. I split my time between the two.

We take deer hunting serious up here. I got a timney coming for my 700. Curious of it will be any quieter.

Not sure why some are against quiet safeties. I realize hunting at long ranges it doesn't matter. I still like to be quiete though, its hunting.

I have experienced the extremely serious nature of Youper hunting. "Serious" generally involves a pile of rutabagas or turnips that a show dog couldn't jump over. *grins*

Do this with your 700 - apply a little downward pressure with your thumb as you're moving the safety all the way forward - don't "flick" it.

No, practice is not a waste of time for me. That's why I know how to operate a safety without two hands. Ruger American, Tikka T3, Model 700, Model 70, Model 77, Model 760/7600. I have them all and shoot them all, and can make them all quiet when I need to.

My point was, if the buck hears my safety, it's too late for him.

Just curious, what does this mean?

It makes it easier to shoot from the window of the ford escort that way.

If you practice, you wouldn't have to remember.
