I like Claus' German Meat Market franks.
Claus has a master's degree in sausage making, which the Germans are actually sausage-crazy enough to have a program for.

Won't buy commercial (big name), love a good deer sausage as a dog ! Old school meat store (4 hours away) makes great sausage, smokies, brats etc. North country meats = http://www.northcountrymeats.com/products.html* They will also make sausage from, your own, wild game !

Well, there's a place near Culpeper VA that makes a real good all bison meat hot dog, but they're up to $14/lb now and I'd rather buy ribeyes at that price!

My wife is from Rhode Island and grew up with http://www.saugys.com/ .and thinks there's no substitute. I have to admit they're a darn good a combo of beef and pork and a nice snappy casing. We often buy a case when we're up there. I do think the Wegmans German style hot dogs are a pretty good substitute though.

Mustard is great, as long as it is either brown &/or whole grain !!
Yellow mustard is for small children, whose taste buds haven't developed.

Goes well with German sausage & mustard (brown) !
Assuming, of course, you mean sauerkraut, "kraut" & not the German soldier version ?

So let's take this thread to the next level. What's the best way to cook a dog? "Frankly" I prefer grilled with a slight char!! Not real big on anything that results in a soggy bun as in boiled with dog water drenching the bun. At Costco I bodly ask them to wrap the dog separate from the bun but that's because I don't eat them until 10 minutes or so up the road. AND buns will likely take this to a whole new level of discussion. I found Nathans foot long Dogs last week but NO foot long buns. WTH?? And what's with the top split buns? I just don't know!! Richard forgive me for taking your thread to BIG Dog status!!

Hot dogs, wieners, what ever you call them, what's best? Wer're lucky in Omaha, as there are a lot of people from central Europe who came to work in the meat packing industry between 1870 and 1940, some of whom established meat markets to service the different ethnic neighborhoods, Czech/German/Polish, and some of those family run meat markets are still making sausages 6 days a week. Since we live in the western 'burbs, our local meat market is Stoysich's at 132nd & Center. They sell over 50 different varieties of wurst, including several different hotdogs and brats. I like the cooked German Brats, the all-beef weiners, and, best of all, the fresh veal bockwurst. Whenever we have guest passing through from out of town and who like German food, we order ahead for a selection of fresh sausages to steam in beer and then finish on the grill. www.stoysich.comA different branch of the same family runs a separate meat market with equally good sausages, I just don't get there very often as it is outside my usual haunts, but I try to stop by to buy eastern/central European packaged/canned goods when I have to visit UPS to ship a long gun. www.frankstoysichmeats.com

I'm no hotdog connoisseur, and mainly grill them just for the kids. Been buying the Ball Park all Beef uncured hotdogs lately. Everyone seems to love me them. I'm more of a smoked deer sausage man myself.

A friend informed me the kids at a birthday pool party asked for grilled hot dogs, and to make it even worse one of them used mayo and ketchup. Civilization is coming to an end I tell you.

I'm not a fan of the big national brands and prefer natural casing regional brands. Around here that means preferably Kayem Old Tyme Franks or if those are not available, Sabrett's or Nathan's. When I get up to the North Country of NY, I look for Glazier red hot dogs, which I have also ordered online and had shipped to me.
