Picked up a decent (not mint) Remington 40X marked US GOVT today at a local shop for $675.00, best deal I found in that shop yet. Didn't chit chat about it or ask question, didn't even try to talk him down or work a trade. Grabbed it, paid for it, and filled paper, while I was filling the paper work out there was two other guys wanting to look at it, told them it was sold, both were saying What a steal. This was the deal of the year for me this year, last year was a Remington 541 HB with a Leupold 3x9 EFR for $500.00. Now to see how this 40X shoots

You got a nice deal. I bought some 40-X's/X-b's from the CMP several years ago. I've been very happy with all of them. Check the serial number etched into the bottom of the bolt to see if it matches that of the rifle...if it doesn't, don't sweat it. The CMP, at times, got the rifles and the bolts in separate shipments with the bolts intermixed but CMP checked the headspace on each one. At least one of mine has a mis-matched bolt but it's a non-problem.
Put a scope on that sucker and see what it'll do..

I'd love to find a 40X locally. I've only seen one ever, and that was a guy who was shipping one he sold. When I saw it, I immediately commented that it was a 40X and he seemed amazed that someone in my area even knew what it was. It was in excellent condition and he said he sold it for $800 shipped. I felt like somebody got a smoking deal considering the condition.

Sounds like you got a hell of a deal.

Great shooting rifles if the bores haven't been abused from cleaning rods. I've owned probably a dozen of them over the years and most shot great.

I find great deals from time to time, the 40x he priced by the blue book, he forgot you hardly ever see them on the shelves anymore, the 541 I'm sure was a mistake pricing but wasn't going to let it there.
