All: Did Savage offer this sling swivel setup from the factory? Thanks... RAS

Your rifle will not letter because there are no logs kept in that serial range. Sling eyes are Savage and probably the hooks and sling though no way to tell if the rifle shipped with them installed. In the 30's Savage started letting the Jobbers take the orders and relay them to Savage for production. Before the 50's R went into production hooks, eyes and slings were options shown in the catalogs but not installed as a general feature on any model. Most were probably sold and installed by the gun shop/hardware store that sold the rifle. Regardless of how they got there, slings with hooks are not often seen. Nice rig.

I just moved to northern Michigan and decided to put a "WTB Savage 99" ad on Armslist. Well, my inbox got mail and here you are. I normally stay away from sling swivels but this sling eye and hook setup is really cool and period correct IMO. The sling is 1.25 wide and reminds me of a Winchester Super Grade sling. Furthermore, the Lyman 29 1/2 is a nice addition to the package. From what I can gather, the sling eyes, hooks and sling are Savage so that is is good enough for me. It's kind of like the pre war side mounts. Savage probably put them on but no way for sure to know.

Is the sling marked "Savage"? How is a Savage sling different from a M1907 sling? (M1907= the sling used on US martial arms through the 20th century, and copied by every sling manufacturer that came down the pike.)
If it is a M1907 sling on your rifle, Jeff, it's installed backwards.
