I have been working on loads for my Model 70 push feed.270 with a 24" barrel and it is kind of strange...
130 gr Sierra Game Kings with RL19 or H4831 shoot 3/4 inch groups pretty consistently IF I do my part. Even a little better if I am having a good day and not too much coffee.
I have tried 130 gr Partitions (with the same COL, load, powder(s) and primer and 150 gr Partitions and Hornady Interlocks with near max "book" loads and the best I can do is about 1.5 inch groups with anything other than the Game Kings.
I only hunt elk so I am hoping to find a 150 gr load but would be happy to settle for 130 gr Partition load that shot really well. I just haven't been able to figure out why the Game kings shine so bright and the rest are ok but not spectacular. (yes I know I don't need sub-MOA groups to kill an elk at 300-400 yards but ya know....). I have not tried Accubonds yet because I have a bunch of Partitions on hand.
I don't have a chronograph (yet) so I don't know how fast they are going but I don't see any classic pressure signs and my loads are at or slightly below published Max loads. I am traveling so I don't have load specifics with me.
Open to suggestions and opinions. Thanks

I've had good results with IMR7828ssc in the .270. 60gr for a 130 partition.

130 grain Sierras have always been a top performer for many .270 shooters.. I seriously doubt you will need to fret over 1.5 " groups for elk hunting.. Been there done that, it isn't worth the worry!

Have you tried varying the powder charge and seating depth on the 150 grainers?
When I find a bullet I want to use, I usually find the COAL that just kisses the lands, then seat it deeper .010-.020 for hunting applications. I then drop 2 grains from max for middle of the road case capacity cartridges, then work up in .5 grain increments to max.

This one works very well in my old pre-64 M70 - Sierra Game King 130gr....51.0gr of Win 760....COAL at 3.225. Avg 2980fps by my chrono.

Have you tried RS Magnum. My CLR 270 shoots both the 130 and 150 gr NPT under MOA with it. Would second the idea of varying the COL sometimes Partitions like a bigger jump.

Thanks all! I will play around with seating depth first I think. I know I am very close to the lands on my 130 gr Game Kind load. I had not heard/read that Partitions like a bit of jump.

I would certainly look at overall length. 130 Partitions and H4831 is pretty much a gold standard for a 270. Hell, if it WON'T shoot, your rifle should be ashamed of itself and hide its barrel stamp.
Do follow up after you monkey with it.

I was playing with a Ruger #1 last fall which was not finicky at all with usual efforts with the Hornady 140 BTSP and H4831. Switching to 140 NBTs and NABs turned it into a scattergun. Stepping up to a slower powder (7828) was the magic in needed. Don't be afraid to branch out.

As others have said h4831 is the gold standard for the 270 Winchester.
Then STFU. The rest of your statement is superflous bullshit with no real bearing on this discussion other than to massage your own ego. Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me.

If I were after elk, I'd rather have a rifle shooting Partitions into an inch and a half than marshmallows into one hole. I'd be more concerned about what the bullet was going to do when it hits than with shooting something in the eye. Try some 150s (NPs ABs, or other tough one) with Reloader 26, 22, or 7828. Be happy with good enough and enjoy your hunt.

SuburbanHunter,
Try backing off seating depth to .050 off the lands. Then adjust seating depth from there.
I know this will raise some eyebrows, but it seems something has changed with Nosler Pt's and BT's. I've been shooting 150gr NPt's and H4831 in various 270's for close to 30 years--mostly .01 off the lands. But in recent years--even in rifles I've had for a couple decades--Partitions are liking to be off the lands quite a bit. And in a couple cases the same with Ballistic Tips.
I'm not sure, but maybe my Nosler Karma has changed..........

Are you guys saying that a chambering from 1925 and a bullet from 1948 will kill an animal born in 2014? There's a lot of evolution not being accounted for there....

Hod 4350 is the best with the 150 gr Partition in my 270

IMR 4350 (55 grains) and about any 130 usually shoot well.
