I was watching a movie on the weekend, and surprisingly, one of the characters said 'bust a cap' meaning to shoot. I never would have guessed this expression was in this movie, especially given it's production year. I'm wondering if this was the first time that phrase was uttered in a movie.
Anybody care to guess the movie?
It takes a village to raise an idiot.

Do you know for sure that phrase was uttered in that movie?
But it's not the one I'm talking about.
It takes a village to raise an idiot.

The earliest that I recall was in TRUE GRIT...
Lucky Ned Pepper said , " I ain't never busted a cap on a woman nor much of anybody under the age of 16, but I"ll do what I have to do..".... Or words to that effect...

Yeah,
I belive that phrase came from early in the percussion cap era.
But I think its still relatively recent to addIn yo azz

Kevin....I think that the modern gangsta version is usually ' POP a cap in yo' azz"...
As in the movie "Pulp Fiction"... Marcellus Wallace says
" Butch goes to INDONESIA, I want a [bleep] jumpin' out of a bowl of rice to pop a cap in his azz.." or words to that effect...
