It's marked M I've heard that stands for Monte Carlo. Seems to. It's actually a model DL. Wait till you find the 358 DL if you think that one's spendy! They are out there with the cut checkered stocks, that's the one I'd hold out for.

Yeah, 99M is stamped on the barrel like the 99F was, but no model 99M was ever catalogued. The 99M barrels show up on the 99DL's, and sometimes (always?) on the 99DE and 99PE engraved rifles, and even a couple have been seen on what appear to be 99F rifles.
99.9% of the time, a listed 99M will be a 99DL.
“ The Savage 99 Pocket Reference”. All models and variations of 1895’s, 1899’s and 99’s covered. Also dates, checkering, engraving.. Find at www.savagelevers.com

deerstalker, that's my favorite model to shoot with the raised comb. Got quite a few of them.

i am cruising for a 308 or another 300 but the budget won't tolerate that kind of money especially for a refinished.i should be happy with what i have at this stage of my life but it is hard to kick the addiction! you know, the just one more impulse!
