I have never had a rifle rebarreled. What is the big advantage to rebarreling, compared to just buying a different rifle? I want to change from .223 to 6.5 creedmoor. I have my AR so the bolt gun doesn't get used much! I would like to play around with the 6.5 creedmoor!

The conversion you're asking about is more complicated that most Savage rebarrel jobs.
In addition to the barrel, you would need to change the bolt head and the bolt stop/gas shield. You would also need to replace the magazine if it has a detachable magazine or the magazine box and follower if it has a blind magazine.
I think that it would be more economical to sell the 223 and put the money toward a new Savage 11 from CDNN for $350 net.
If you already have the 6.5 Creedmoor barrel for a small shank Savage 110 series action, you could buy a Marlin XS7 from CDNN for $240 net and install the Savage barrel.

What Jeff said.
I did the Savage 223 conversion and it was a royal pain in the butt.

I converted a Savage 11 from 204 to 260 in 2008 and it was, as DW pointed out, a royal PITA!

260 you just gave the same rundown I went through in my mind! That's how I keep ending up with more rifles. Your right of course, with one exception. I'll just keep the 223 instead of selling! I didn't think about the bolt stop! Thanks for the reply.

I must be lucky. I did my first Savage barrel change the other day. It was a .223 and now is a 6.5 Creedmoor. The bolt head had to be changed but the magazine was fine. And I didn't change a bolt stop. The headspace was go with the clean bolt and no go with a piece of paper cut to fit where the case head fits into the bolt. Piece of cake.
But I spent over $400 when just buying a new rifle would have been cheaper. I needed the barrel nut wrench and a barrel vice and a bench vice to hole the barrel vice.

Rich, too bad I wasn't aware of you doing this, or wanting to do it... I have ALL of that stuff over here at the house... To the OP.. If he wanted to do a Creedmoor... changing the barrel is no big deal... and also if he didn't want to monkey with the bolt head change...for about $125.00 you could just secure a new bolt... PTG has them available... as does Brownells. I got my bolt heads via Midway....

I kept the .223 and picked up a 6.5 in Ruger American today. The Ruger has a puke green stock, I'll give it a try. It fits good but it sure is ugly! Now for a scope soon as my funds are replenished!

I think that's the smartest thing to do with the price you can pick up new rifles for these days. The stock is only a paint job away from something you like, I personally like the green color stock on the RAR Predator. I also like the barrel profile of the Predator better than what you'll find ready to ship on a Savage rebarrel, 99% of all ready to ship pre-fit Savage barrels will be a heavy barrel or varmint taper an 26" long. If you want anything different you're going to have to wait on a barrel to be built for anything different.
