Howdy All,
Rather than hijack an existing thread I'll rehash a subject I'm sure you see often. I have a friend who has been deployed for some time. While he was gone his hunting rifles "disappeared". I'm gifting my Savage 114 in 30-06 (along with a elk trip) and I need some budget glass for <300 yards. I don't want to waste money but I'm stretched fiscally about as far as my wife will let me. Looking for (1-2.5)x - (5-9)x and <= 40mm
Thanks for the assist,
Mike

Ultra budget scopes are largely disappointing. I did manage to pick up one of the Sightron S1H 3-9x from Whittaker a while back for under 90 bucks, and its serviceable. The Minox ZV3 that CameraLand have for under a hundred seem to get good reviews. Other than that, maybe a refurb Burris from Natchez, or something used on the Classifieds here.

If people want to contribute... why don't we pool a few bucks each and buy the veteran one?
If no one wants to participate, I'll just make a gift of one for him.
If he was 'deployed' he's a veteran...
the OP has already donated the troop a Savage 30/06.

A dollar point would help. I assume you are trying to keep it $100-150? That's about as low as you may want to go. Look at VX1, maybe even Sig Whiskey 3.

I was in nearly the same situation a few years ago. My best advice is to find a used Bushnell 3200 3-9X40. It should cost somewhere between $100-$150 and is Japanese made. Do not confuse it with current 3500 offerings. I'll check to see if a couple used retailers have one and post a link here if I find one.

Seafire,
If the contribution happens you can count me in for $20. We need an address.

Mike Look here: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/12220255/1The 3x9x40 is just 85 bucks plus shipping, which is like another 10 bucks. I have several ZA 3x9's with the BDC reticle and they have worked out well for me. I bought one of these ZV's also with the BDC reticle yesterday and it shipped the same day. I believe the ZA's have better glass but if you read the comments the ZV is being well received. Good luck in your search.

I would like to participate in the donation thing too.
Let me run this offer by you guys if you don't mind. I can get a VX2 3-9x40 matte/duplex for app $230. Don't ask me how...... If you have another model in mind just let me know and I'll get pricing.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

Mike I've got a good used Weaver Classic K4(4x38). Got a couple ring marks but the glass is perfect, I know it's not US made, but it would work great in the application. If your buddy would like it, just let me know where to ship it, I'll even throw in a new set of butler creeks. Make sure to thank your friend for his service. Tim
