Looking to buy an affordable scope for .223 plinking at 100 and 200 yards. Narrowed it down to the Leupold VX1 and Sig Sauer Whiskey 3. Have seen some good reviews on the new Sig scopes, but Leupold seems to be highly recommended and is at least made in US. Just wondering if I should save a few bucks with the Sig or just go with a Leupold.

I have a Whiskey 5 series and will be getting another when I need new optics.

Cabelas has the Sig Sauer Whiskey 3 (3x9x40) with standards Quadfire reticle for $119, and the Leupold is $169. Since the rifle it I should going on is going to primarily used by my son, have a good warranty from a company that will stand behind it is important. Nervous about Sig given the length of time they have been making scopes. When I compared the specs the Leupold has a greater amount of eye relief, is about 1/3 lighter, and offers greater FOV--but will be a little over $40 more sale considered.

Sounds like it comes down to $40...why not split the difference and get a Redfield Revolution(if it's not a rebadged VX1, it's dang close) for $135 from Amazon?

I have a Sig Whiskey3 on a RAR Predator. They are a really nice scope, especially for the sale price. Having said that, I just picked up a Leupold American Marksman at Cabelas for $150 and it is worth the extra $30.

No one has mentioned CS. Leupold is well known, what's the story on Sig Sauer CS?
The current Redfields should fall under Leupold CS.
Tract Optics is an interesting newcomer to this market, deserves a chance. I would think their CS is very good, never handled one of their products. Those who have say nice things, haven't heard any negative which is remarkable here on the Fire. So, they're probably pretty good...

As far as Sig CS, I have friend that works there and I live about an hour from their headquarters. Not sure if proximity counts for anything. Haven't heard/read anything bad about their CS with optics line yet.

Leupold warranty is pretty bulletproof. I would go with Leupold myself.

Leupold resale should be better than a lesser known brand.

why not split the difference and get a Redfield Revolution(if it's not a rebadged VX1, it's dang close) The Redfield ain't a bad scope, but is a rebadged Rifleman. At one time the Redfield, the Rifleman and the VX-1 were the same scope with slightly different reticles. The VX-1 was available with lots more options, but was still the same scope. About 5 years ago Leupold upgraded the VX-1. A current VX-1 is the same scope as an older VX-2 and is a lot better scope than either the Redfield or Rifleman. I haven't looked through a Sig scope, but the difference in weight and eye relief would make Leupold the easy choice for me.

I haven't looked through a Sig scope, but the difference in weight and eye relief would make Leupold the easy choice for me. I spoke to a Leupold tech a few years ago and was told that the Redfield(at that time) was closer to the VX2 than the VX1, the main reason for the lower cost being the metal finish on the Leupold scopes was polished much better and available with many more options. There has been an upgrade to the Leupold scopes since then, however, the Revolution is still(to my eyes anyway) as good as a VX1 optically. The main difference, price wise, comes down to lack of lens cover from the factory, and a limited model range/reticle selection. I've looked through the Rifleman scopes, the Revolution is better.

If a Leupy breaks, for pretty much any reason, we all know what to do with it and what the end result will be. Anybody have the same info on the Sig scopes? $40 won't seem like much then.
What fresh Hell is this?
