Why not buy a new Mountain Rifle stainless 7mm08 and look for an old style walnut MR stock for it?

I built a 257Roberts in a MR that way.

Been hunting with one in 270 since 1994. This will be the first year I give it a break. Found two used model 7s in 708 this year...one is a youth. So my son and I will be out there with those this year. First handloads out of mine measured under 1in @100 so it is showing promise. I loaded up some youth loads for my sons and his groups weren't much larger. Deer better watch out this year.

I'd love to have a remmy in 257 roberts. Gonna keep my eye out. I know where a 6mm model 7 is sitting right now and if it sits much longer...may just get it and a nice 257 rob barrel put on it.

The world is at your finger tips with Gunbroker and the Internet like Jeffbird wrote. You might pay a bit more than at the local pawn shop, but at least you end up with what you are looking for. I was looking for a pre-lock S&W M337PD discontinued in 1999 and found one out of Georgia on Gunbroker. The sale went perfectly and shipped to a local FFL.

Thanks ..... That deer crossed a trail I was watching at about 35yds. He turned and looked at me with his mouth agape and took a bullet right in the mouth.

That 257 now wears a TI take-off and has become a favourite.

It is a small world. I used to look over those same Mountain rifles at Knoxville Sports Unlimited around 1990-91. I could only look at the time though. I have since owned the old floorplate model in 7mm-08, 7x57 and 280 Rem. All three shot great, but as it turns out the Mountain rifle stock fits me very poorly and no matter how much I liked the looks the fit never got any better no matter what caliber I bought.
