Nothing rare or collectable I found today but i have been looking around at pawn shops. I had a 336 marlin 30-30 24inch barrel half tube mag white line spacers on the buttpad and pistol grip when I was a teenager in the late 70,s growing up in maine. My searching has been for a win 94 in 32 special. But..... I just put 35 dollars down on a Marlin Glenfield model 36 sporting carbine 19.5 inch barrel and half tube mag in 30-30 4+1capacity ser# z233xx (1964). It struck my eye the right way and its balance and design felt right. Bore looked excellent and clean without yrs of crud probably 85- 90%. The crown is undamaged. The action is solid and crisp and smooth. The bluing on both sides of the receiver is probably 65% from carry wear, barrel bluing is around the same as is the lever. Biggest thing is no pitting on any of the metal or in the bore. Dark as a [bleep] azz black walnut wood with 3 small dents. The pawn shop was asking 200 for it . After some back and forth haggling I got it down to 140 (164 after tax and background). Put 35 down on it and got 4 payments of 32.25 and pick it up in January. Perfect project for that dead time when deer season ends and before turkey season begins. Gonna redo the wood , steam out those small dents and truoil the stock, completely tear the rifle down and get all metal ceracoated gun black, get a lyman 66 receiver sight or a lyman flip up rear (not a fan of ladder ramp rear sights), get a box of that hornady leverevolution ammo in 160gr and some other brands and see what it likes the most. Make it my crappy weather deer rifle for next yr , this year my crappy weather rifle is gonna be my AR with 62gr Barnes vortex. But this little carbine I ran across today for some reason really struck me as one I couldn't pass up (never seen one before today) and once I gave it a good examination I realized it had alot of potential and could be put back into excellent working order and condition and look really sharp once again . Needed a winter project anyways and this carbine fit the bill, I'm figuring with purchase and wood working and ceracoating it might be a total of around 275-300 into the gun when it is all done.

Oh shytttt... The 160gr hornady ftx load goes 2400 and Barnes makes a 150gr tsx fn load that goes 2335, gotta try those for sure.

Sounds perfect the way it is. I wouldn't change a thing if it were me.

I've got a 1949 Marlin 336 .32 Special in basically the same condition. Every time I get it out and look at it I wonder about the hunts it has been on throughout the years and the big bucks that might have fallen to it (or been missed by it!)

That's a pretty good deal these days. The rifle is an awfully handy hunting tool. Mine is a spare/foul weather/loaner rifle par excellence.

Doing little more research. Transition gun from marlin Glenfield in 64 and 65 then Glenfield made it into their model 30 their on out. Said the early 64 marlin Glenfield 36,s had black walnut stocks and then birch stocks for the total 2 yrs of production and the good thing is parts are available if needed from common 336 parts. Makes me wanna just go pick up the darn thing up right now and get some rounds and shoot it!!! But..... I don't wanna hear the wife and her chit, when I can get it on the payments and she will know none the different.

Im debating ceracoat or bluing . I could hang with the barrel receiver mag tube and lever getting blued and forking out for that and doing the other things myself. Or ceracoat . Kinda want to keep cost down. But I have blued allot of stuff myself also and could keep cost down doing it myself also. Still.up in the air

You're welcome. Both English and Nazi should be capitalized.

I have seen some good ceracoat jobs done here in Clarksville. They also have a gun blue tint shade . I'm up in the air, cost is what I wanna keep down ceracoat would be economical, bluing myself would be also, then going full blown retard and paying a Smith for hot or rust bluing would be a option also depending on funds.

I stumbled across a waffle top 336 down at Bud's several years ago. I asked the salesman for a bore light to look at the barrel.

While I was lookin' at it he started in talking about how microgroove rifling was good stuff and alla that.

I said, "Yeah,...but this one doesn't have microgroove rifling".

He looked down the barrel and saw the cut Ballard rifling in it and seemed perplexed.

I ran the serial number on it and learned that it was from 1948.

It also had an old all steel Lyman receiver sight on it.

Somebody would have to pay me a lot more than it's worth to get it away from me.
