Stopped by one of my favorite pawn shops today and found a Marlin 39 A Mountie with straight stock 95% bluing, for $499.
Made in 1960.
Not the best price but I brought it home with me.

Not the worst price, either.

Mounties are Cool and at a premium...very hard to find.

You did well, IMO.

Rates a two-cool

That's actually not a bad price for a clean one like that. I've seen them priced much higher at gun shows in the Dallas area.

Since it was a pawn shop, did you even try to ask for less?

I guarantee that they had room to move on it. Probably more room than you think.

Despite that, $499 is pretty darn reasonable for that firearm in that condition.

I'd have bought that Marlin in a second.

I found my Mountie at a local pawn shop, it was 495 so I bought it.

Over a period of a year, I also found a 336A 35Rem with a short mag tube and an 1894M 22WMR at the same shop, I flipped the 1894 for about 400 profit but should have kept it.

Picked up a Kleinguenther K-15 in 300 Weatherby for 800.00 in Elgin Texas not long ago. I need to shoot it. They were the first to guarantee 1/2 groups.

passed on a nice straight stock Marlin in .35 Remington recently. $350, but I just did not feel I needed it even at that price.

I got my Golden Mountie in a trade with a 'fire member. He got the previous straight stock .35 I had, but never used.

Certainly NOT the best picture either.....as in NONE.
People need to stop using Photobucket.

At pawn shops I always ask if they will take less. Sometime it works ,sometimes it doesn't.

That isn't a picture of the rifle. It's part of his signature. Yeah, the photobucket blanks are annoying. It usually is possible to see them, but with some effort involved. Right click over image, select "copy image location", then open a new tab and paste into the address bar and enter. That takes you to photobucket. And it will load the first time with that same BS message. Refresh the page and the image will usually show up on that second attempt. Not usually worth the effort, but it is possible to circumvent apparently.

Nice find mitchell. I don't have a Mountie, but do have an original Marlin Model 39 before they went to the 39a. It has the octagon barrel and case colored receiver. Of course, the case coloring is just gray and plum colored now. I also have some new 39a's, but the original handles and carries better.

That's a keeper. Way I see it is,...if you wouldn't sell it for what you paid for it, you got a good deal.
