My small patch in the woods produced about 10 pounds this year. A couple good sized ones mixed in a quart of ice cream is my all-time favorite!

Heading out this evening to look for some more. They're starting to smell pretty good right now so the coon have probably beat me to any leftovers.

I planted 2 this year, curious to see how they do in the NW...

Walked 1/4 mile through a cornfield, 90° and clouds of skeeters but got about 25 pounds so it was worth it. Even a couple small trees scattered in my woods had fruit. Definitely an above average year around here.

I planted two last year. They each grew about 1 foot but are still less than 3 feet tall. I think we are 4-5 years away from seeing any fruit. They seem to be growing pretty slow,

I've read that paw paw trees are self infertile and that small groups of trees are actually from the same root system. That probably explains why many patches do not produce fruit. In hopes of improving the few patches in my woods, I have been planting seeds from other locations in and around my trees. It may be an exercise in futility but what better way to spend a Saturday morning?
