Not much else to the story. Levi's were found in a mine in very good condition.



I did read they no longer have the rivet at the bottom of the fly. People would crouch down over fires to keep warm, the rivet would retain heat and when they stood up it would burn their balls.

How'd they determine date? Carbon-testing?

I'm not sure but Levi's keeps these stock of jeans they have made since their inception. So I think they probably just reached out to Levi's.

other comments noted that the denim is thinner than modern jeans but otherwise would be pretty readily recognizable at a pair of Levis.

My question would be - what was going on in that mine for someone to leave their pants?

That was my first thought too. I do like the suspender buttons. I wish new models came with those.

If true, that's way back before Levi's were anti gun and pro gay. Oh the good times...

I like their jeans, but refuse to buy them because of their positions on those topics. It means little to them, but i spend $ with my conscience whenever reasonably possible.

I read an article about Levi's back in the 'fifties when there was only one kind made, the ones that came to be labeled 501's. It claimed that the old man, Levi Strauss, put it in his will that the stitch design and the red tag on the back pocket could no longer be used if the britches were changed in any way.

I wore them right up to the time that Ownership revealed its left wing Agenda. Been Wranglers ever since.

those things are worth a lot, i read a story awhile back where people were paying 10s of thousands for those old jeans.

Levi's that old say made in Siam instead of Thailand. 😉

The new ones don't last nearly that long.

Read an article years ago about a pair of old Levis found in a mine, and they had a pic, but they weren't nearly in this good shape though. They looked like they had spent 100 years in a mine.

I'll check in the closet for some of my old 32's. I may have pair close to that age.

Because this isn't the pair found in the mine. That pair dates from 1890, and is not in nearly as good condition. This pair is from 1879, but it doesn't tell how, or where, they established provenance. They are all in a vault owned by Levi's, and are NOT in a museum. There are only 2 people in the world authorized to handle the ones from 1879, and they have to wear cotton gloves when doing so. Here's a link to the original article on Mashables.com:
