Still have 6 weeks till rifle opener in Michigan. The grey smoke from the chimney indicates the 99T in 300 Sav will get the nod. With the lightfoot rear machined ring, and yours truly machined front tube, stuffed a 1.5-5 Nikon Monarch in the Stith. Went to the range yesterday and with RL15 and 165 gr Nozler partitions, shot a couple confidence building groups. Bullz-eye at 100, and I'll be dammmmed if it wasn't bullz-eye at 50 yds as well. Of course this is subject to change without notice. The 1926 99F in 303 Sav with the 29 1/2 Lyman is giving me the stink eye. I told her "next year". I Can't bloody wait.

John, with the nasty heat we've had recently, i suspect that might not be helping things much. I am assuming the more northern regions you're in also got a taste of it. I am praying by mid November when I head up to the Upper, cold and snow will prevail.

My 99 EG in .300 Savage is definitely getting the nod. With iron sights to boot.

Nice, very nice. That wouldn't happen to be a Leupold in the Stith sitting on to of the BB carbine, would it?

Beautiful Longbeard. Black guns can't hold a candle to these gems. The top rifle in photo it appears the wood in the front is fancy and the wood in the back is not? Not that it matters but are my eyes deceiving me?

Steve, Your armory keeps getting prettier and prettier! They obviously bring you good luck in the deer woods!

Steve, Your armory keeps getting prettier and prettier! They obviously bring you good luck in the deer woods! I apologize for being the way I am. I like Savages as close to original as I can get. But if I stumble onto a "hard to find one" in almost any condition it'll come to my house. I don't wish to hi-jack this thread. I believe Gerry would like to see what wares other folks are totin' this fall.

I have my 99T .300 and a Mauser .30-06 sorted out for a foray into the northern PA woods in December. The T was only roughly sighted at 25 yards last August at the 99 Club meet. When I shot it at 50 and 100 yards last weekend it only required a couple clicks of the Lyman 57 to bring it into line. The final three shots went into an inch or so, cutting the X-ring out of a 3" black bull at 100, with a 6 o'clock hold. At that point I shoved it back into its case. Load: 165gr. Sierra BTHP/37.0gr. IMR-4895/CCI LR primer/virgin W-W brass. That gun, which I had been toying with selling, has turned out to be the most accurate .300 I ever shot with- it shall stay now.
This weekend I'll be sorting out a couple of .22HP's and a .303 for use in the Maryland woods. Perhaps the new custom Krag .30-40, if I shift into overdrive and get it finished in time. On the other hand, my range time may well get taken up by a .220 Swift that hasn't been shot in quite a while.

In Texas, the Hoyt is going to be the tool.
In Michigan, still debating. I am thinking my post war 99Rs in 250 or 308. There is power line that I will be hunting. For that, it is going to be my pre-64 M70 Winchester in 264 Win Mag. Otherwise known as the Westerner. It has a 6.5-20 Zeiss on top. Very confident out to 550 with it.
