Just curious about y'alls opinion on the best fixed 4x scope ever made to fit this criteria:
- set it and forget it (no turret twisting) - hunting only - great FOV - ruggedness - plenty of eye relief

You meaning in current production? If not a 4X steel tubed Weaver w/MicroTrac. Mine's not here right now so I'm not sure of it's model number.

I like the Zeiss Conquest 4X. Sadly discontinued. I have one left, unmounted, ready to go on the next perfect rifle. Might be awhile. In current production the Leupold FX II (great eye relief) the the Weaver Classic. The Weaver is a nice scope, but is a little short on eye relief if you're shooting a big gun. Bob

I really like the following two:
Zeiss Conquest 4x32 Nikon Monarch 4x40
Leupold 4x's are next in line.

Leupold 4x's are next in line. I'd echo this. I've never had a chance to look through a Swaro 4x... but I'd like to. FC

Really liked my 4X Conquest. But it only lasted for around 50 shots. Got a 4X Leupold now but no mileage on it yet.

I'd vote for one of the older M8 4X Leupolds, especially the longer tube models, along with another vote for the 4x40 Pre Monarchs and Monarchs.

I really like the Leupold FXII-4x. Good eye relief, good view of view and the wide duplex. That's what is on my rifles for deer hunting east of the Mississippi. For west of the Mississippi, I like the 6X. I sight my 30/06 dead on for the 4x. For the 6x I'm about 2" high at 100 yards-----my shots out west are generally a little longer. I set my scope & don't change it. I'll recheck for zero before every hunting season. Newer scopes have 1/4" adjustments but I can live with friction adjustment just fine. Bob
I've got an extra FXII-4X if your interested.

Of all the 4x scopes I've owned or used, which include Leupold, Weaver and several others, I'd rate Meopta's Artemis 2000 4x32 the best of them.

I would have to recommend the S&B 4x36 or the Swaro 4x32 if you can find one

i have a current FXII on a Ruger 77 RSI. Excellent scope. Great eye relief, very clear, and very bright. It's best on a short action, though. I've used the old Weavers and like them, but they suffer compared to modern scopes for clarity and brightness. I've had a Lyman permacenter that I loved, but it went downrange with the rifle when I sold it. really great scope, but the finish wore very easily. Had an old Denver Redfield that was nice, as well as an old M8 I liked that would be hard to beat for a long action. Of all of the above, I'd have to take the FXII, though.

Kahles Helia C 4x36...
Have one, don't want to let it go. Have had Leupold FXII 4x33 and FX3 6x42s. Both have gone down the road.

I've got an IOR 4x with the #1 reticle. I'm just not a fixed power guy so it's back in the box.

I'm really happy with my IOR 4x.
I have a couple of Meopta 4x scopes and they are good but I like the IOR better.

Older M8 Leupold, either 4x33 or 4x28 long tube. They may not have the latest Gucci coatings, but they will stay zero'ed.
