I have this bug too. Some users who've joined in the last few years seem to get it. I've tried everything. It's super annoying. Nah, youre thinking hemorrhoids or toothache.

The thing has been blinking since I joined.
I thought it was a welcome message. Dumb me.
It has never, not been there. Three years. You win the Steelhead Award for patience. Mine will be have been there for five years come October. I'm not expecting it to go anywhere. Have PM notifications emailed to you and just ignore the envelope. It bugged me for a long time but once I accepted the fact that it was there to stay I found the inner strength to move on.

I tried dropping my Samsung in the rain barrel for a week. Then rechecked it. Tablet doesnt work but the FFF (freaking flashing flag) is going strong.
And, folks wonder why i am late to answer their pm's.
