Antelope opener Saturday. I drew a tag for the Centennial valley about an hour and a half away. Went down last week to see where the pronghorns are at. Its some big country to hunt, with very little to no cover save some tall grasses. It is wide open for miles and miles. (Shooting sticks are vital!) Should be an exciting hunt! Will be shooting 80gr TTSX in 243, or 120 gr TTSX in 6.5x284 if moderately windy. I am confident with both out to 500 yds. Will be LOTS of glassing and walking. Heeeere speeedgoooat... A pic looking down the valley with the foothills of the Centennials rising on the left.

Its flatter than piss on a platter out there Sam. I walked around for hours and the only real cover I found were sporadic ancient buffalo wallows that form a depression one could sit in and glass out over the sea of grass. Also make a good ambush point.

I have hunted that valley for antelope several times. I would look at the north west part of the unit.

I'm hunting centennials again this season. Sat out the opener today. High winds and grandkids. We've hunted there whenever we've been able since the early '80s. Place hasn't changed much over time. Scouting earlier last week and found several nice groups of goats, and lots of camps.

Solduc: Indeed the wind was unusually strong (blasting!) yesterday (the opener) - I hope you get after'em today. No wind at all where I am (north of the Centennial) today. Your name reminds me of THE ONLY thing I miss about Washington state - steelhead fishing and the Sol Duc River (and the Bogachiel!) enjoy yourselves, good luck and drive careful on the trip home. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
