Surprise, surprise. Of course, no mention of being a damn American, loyalty to the country or respect for anyone who has fallen for that flag. Nope, it's about the money. Thank you for confirming what we already knew.

Jerry met with the players Wednesday after practice, addressing the team for about 20 minutes, according to two sources. Multiple sources said he spoke matter-of-factly about why he wants to avoid any perception that the players on the Cowboys aren’t honoring the flag during the national anthem. The sources said Jerry addressed the potential of anthem protests affecting the business of the Dallas Cowboys either through poor TV ratings or the potential loss of advertising partners.

The reason we boycott businesses is to change their behavior to match our ideas by affecting their bottom line; the need to do so precludes their having the same ideas about things that we do.

Jones told his players in their Wednesday meeting that his stance on the anthem is because he wants to play the bad guy and deflect attention from the rest of the team, reports ESPN.com's Todd Archer.

So, this is just a game where you're playing a role to fool the people??? Nice, you piece of crap.

A boycott, intentional or not, can have an impact.

I don't boycott their games to impact their bottom line. I boycott their games because I'm offended by their behavior. Them losing money is just a spiteful bonus.

In the meeting, Jones sought to ensure that players also saw the BIGGER PICTURE regarding the business side of the situation, including concerns over TV ratings and sponsors, the source said.

So, the bigger picture has nothing to do with not being an un-American jackass.

How the players are perceived is more important than the substance of their beliefs.

Not surprised, it is just another arm of the Entertainment Industry , nothing more.

Maybe splitting hairs but all Cowboys were standing for the anthem- and no, I don't like this crap any more than anyone else does.

Most telling response to all this was the list of arrested NFL players over the past few years.

One positive out of this is the power of the purse in action. Some may slight Trump for stirring up a mess but at least he had the guts to stand up to it.

So how else can you get the message to the players? They are SJW heros, and feel they have the moral authority to protest. How do you make a point with them?

Tell 'em it is about to cost THEM money! Suddenly, personal finances override moral authority. Jerry doesn't have a lot of card to play here because they have agreement in the curret CBA. In other words, you can't make them stand respectfully. If he benches them over this, will there be repercussions with the Players Union? Not sure, but Jones can't fire them and can't fine them right now. He can put a team rule in that requires all Cowboys stand, but then you'll have a stink in the media if some fight it.

Well, of course, it is. Capitalism is more American than the flag anyway.

Yeah, be the adult in the room, and tell them the truth. And the truth is, their method of protest isn't working and it's wrong!!! Explain to these friggin idiots that if their goal to be promote more unity in this country, they shouldn't be spreading their message in such a way that offends millions of people and is completely counter productive to their goal. Explain to them, they they can have an opinon and if they want to express their opinion, there are countless reporters that will give them a camera and a microphone any time they want one, ON THEIR OWN TIME, and their message will be heard by millions. Explain to them that the damn flag doesn't represent racism or hate or whatever they think it does. It represents what's great about this country and what has given them the opportunity to make millions of dollars playing a damn game. And explain to them that countless people have died for that flag, so when they choose to link their protest with the flag, they're pissing on the graves of all the people who have given the ultimate sacrifice, so that THEY CAN PROTEST. Tell them the FUGKING TRUTH. And if they don't like it, be a friggin man and bench or fire their ass!!!

I've read the Declaration of Independence several times. Taxation without representation is one accusation leveled at the King, but one among more than a dozen. Not to say your assertion is inaccurate, just that the comparison is woefully lacking.

Jerry Jones, as well as every other owner out there, are scared schittlesss of their own players. The tail is wagging the dog nowadays and the owners know it, and can do pretty much nothing about it in this day and age of guaranteed player contracts.

I sat next to a high powered lawyer from Dallas on the plane one day. The both of us were actually returning from Africa on the leg between Atlanta and Dallas. Don't remember how the subject got on the Cowboys, but his guy had done some work for the Jones family in the past. He confirmed they were pretty much trailer park trash, with money. I haven't like them since Tom Landry was fired anyway, as I can't stand Jimmy Johnson either, or Switzer for that matter.

It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

They can say whatever they like. It's too late for amended behavior to make a difference to me. It has been made clear that we are the assailed party in a culture war and this is just a skirmish while the left hones their tactics .

This whole NFL thing reminds me of getting my mother-in-law buried.

We got there about an hour after she'd breathed her last. KYHillChick wanted to see her. I didn't, but I followed her anyway. She was already turning an icky shade of yellow-gray and was starting to stiffen up. Blech!

So they sent a hearse up to Cincinnati to drag her back to the County where all her kin live and we drove down in a couple of days to make arrangements. I couldn't imagine an open coffin, but KYHillChick wanted it done. The next time I saw my MIL was the visitation, and I have to say the mortician had done a bang-up job getting her looking presentable-- pink skin, rosy cheeks. I don't know if you've ever had this happen, but it's hard for a person to look at a dead body at a funeral, and not get the impression the corpse is breathing-- trick of the mind. Everyone said she looked so peaceful and all.

I was the head pall-bearer, and so I was there after the crowd had left. We were short a couple of guys that had been detained, and I was trying to figure out if we could get her out to the gravesite on dew-slick grass with just 4 guys. As I was going round the coffin, I caught a view of the head from a different angle. The mortician had done a good job up to about the ears and then stopped. Past that, the corpse as gray and lifeless as when I'd seen it in the home. I was more than happy to get that lid closed and be done with it.

Yep. That's about how I'm feeling with the NFL right about now. Get the lid closed. Get it in the ground. Let's hire a piper to play Highland Cathedral and then let's go get drunk with the cousins.
