Ruger #1 RSI .243 win w 4X Leupold.
My hunting buddy got another 760 Remington in .35 Rem (has two).
Might use one for antlerless if I don't have a doe down by recurve before gun season.
If nothing down at the end of firearms, then will go MZ season with a TC Hawken Silver Elite.

For the longer venues? The Ruger Hawkeye in 30-06

I've also got The Mauser From Hell ( see the Gunwriters section for details). It needs to be blooded

I have this mental picture of some of y'all carrying a golf bag full of rifles when you go deer hunting. Reminds me of a deer hunter I happened upon many years ago. He was carrying a scoped 30-30 for "long range", a 12 gauge pump with slugs for "brush hunting", and a 44 Mag pistol for "close range." He happened to be bunting on a farm that he didn't have permission to be on, and I ran his ass off before he had a chance to shoot somebody.

Oh well, I confess that I sometimes use more than one rifle during the season myself. But, I only carry one at a time.

It SHOULD be up to the hunter to decide what is the most ethical shot, and what weapon to use. But here in Ohio, they allow only one weapon while deer hunting, even when bow hunting during deer gun, you can have no other weapon. The only exception as the law stands now, is a CCW. (I am trrying to get this stupid law repealed.)

An unemployed Jester, is nobody's Fool.

the only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker, is observation. all the same data is present for both. The rest, is understanding what you're seeing.

I take a minimum of 3 to camp for the first 9 days. After I take a deer with one, I put it away. After I get home after the first week, I start swapping in and out to suit my tastes. All told, I've got a good dozen deer rifles, and it's all a matter of how I feel what I'm going to pack for the latter part of the season. I never have less than two so I at least have a primary and a backup. I've had to go to the backup rifle 3 times in 15 years. There's also the issue of inclement weather. There are rifles (like the Savage 99) that I just don't want out in the rain.

Had MZ, did belly crawl across big field.........Python acted as a plow.
No more deer sidearm.
Took rifle and shotgun on a long night hunt (several farms, walking loop in decent snow). No more rifle/shotgun ventures.
Backups? Sure. But not in the field at same time.
Too old and cranky for the hassle anymore.
