Go with the 243 in a youth model. I've loaded "youth loads" in 243 and 270 and they worked. In my experience a 270 won't do anything inside 150 yards a 243 will do as well for deer with both shooting full power loads. YMMV

If varmints are on the menu 243, if not creedmoor.

243, and get reduced loads to start, or reload them yourself.

We just used 18 grains Blue Dot under a 70 grain Ballistic Tip from the 243 for my son's first deer. Perfect performance, and my son has yet to figure out what I'm talking about when I mention following through without flinching. He doesn't know what a flinch is, or why someone would have one. I hope to keep it that way.

you can do either, I did not own a 243, but had plenty of 270's in the safe. My boys cut their teeth shooting reduced loads out of 270's.

Between my nephews and boys, they killed deer/antelope with 85gr TSX's at 1900fps, 130gr Hornady IL at 2400fps, 140gr Hornady BTSP at 2300fps, 110gr NAB at 2600fps.

Funny thing is that both of my boys own 243's now, along with their 270's.

Shot placement with reasonably adequate caliber/bullet. Whtaever the situation calls for or is preferred.

All else is fluff.

I'm wanting to take a moose with my .260.... which is adequate if I do my due dilegence. If I get one this year, tho, it will be with the '06, which is available. Meat uber alles!

Whatever.....
