Unfortunately, I have to back out of this. It has nothing to do with the rifle or seller. I had a phone call that just spent all my fun money. (college)

You know it's a good one when the seller buys it back a few years later. Never happened before here I'm sure I'm glad it's going back to someone that will appreciate it. These are really nice rifles.

Pretty cool - glad it found it's way home! Also learned something about those stocks - never knew some were lighter/higher quality ...

Seems like a higher proportion of the Mtn rifles were the lighter ones. Apparently there were two different manufacturers of the tupperware stocks the first couple years.

Besides the stock, an interesting thing about this particular run of rifles is they all seem to really shoot, both the ones I've worked with and I've heard similar reports from others. Not the case with the newer mtn rifles, a lot more hit or miss. I've owned and shot a bunch in syn., wood and lam stocks, blued and s/s and you just don't know with one. Also in the wood stocked ones recoil is above what it logically should be-I restocked on in .30-06 that a friend had, the wood stock had cracked at the wrist. He hated shooting it and because of that it shot like crap for him. Put it in an older synthetic stock and he couldn't believe it was the same rifle. Much softer recoil and he shot it well.

+1! That's been my experience too.
Also, the ones that have a gray'ish looking stock seemed to be stiffer then the normal injection molded type. IMO

It has always been easily sub MOA with 120-150 gr bullets. It actually shot worse when I put it in a TI take off stock for a short time before going back to original.

Thank you for taking care of it for a few years for me and for the opportunity to get it back. Everytime I think I can live without a .30-06, I discover I am mistaken! I agree with the sentiments that there is just something right about the '93 run of S/S mountain rifles. I had a nearly identical .30-06 stainless mountain rifle in a laminate stock and it never shot as well or balanced as well as this one and it seemed to recoil more. I also have at different times had this rifle in a Ti takeoff and a McMillan Mountain Rifle Edge and prefer it in the factory stock.
