Got an awesome deal on a 3006 Remington 700 and decided to use it for a build. I don't want to spend 600 bucks to rebarrel a 600 dollar gun. What's the best route to a 257 roberts? I know er shaw can do it at a decent price but what would you guys do. This is an sps model with camo stock...almost 600 bucks, on clearance for 329 so I thought it would be a good start for a build

Cheapest way to go would be to find a used or take off 25-06 barrel on ebay, gunbroker, or other place and have it fitted up to your action. If you find a 257R take off barrel, all the better but I would be suprised if you find one.

Not the answer you want, but I'd spend the extra ($100 or so) and get a upper end barrel and have a very accurate rifle.

If the '06 shoots well, I'd start all over on that "build".... Or as said - ERShaw new barrel and eBay the '06 bbl. I've had good luck on the few take-off's I've installed on my own or other guns, but that's more of a crap shoot than a new barrel.
