My sisters weapon of choice . She limits her shot distance , and shoots faster 180 gr loads . It wears a 1-4 Redfield , and oddly shoots MOA with the right load . It's the '76 bi-centennial ??? Model
I've loaned her a "proper deer rifle " a few times and she's killed with them but she always gave them back saying they didn't "hit" like the 44 . Brian Pearce has wriitten more than once that a .357 rifle hits like a .30/30 and the .44 like an '06, inside reasonable range, of course. In my limited experience with the .44, all I can say is stuff dies about like with other CF rounds, and the insides were just about as messed up.
What fresh Hell is this?

I've used a 20" Marlin on some deer. It's fast-handling, with ample power for the biggest critters in NA, and hits hard. Shots out to 150 are point blank with a 130yd zero. Ideal for most deer hunting. I've used 240 to 300 gr bullets.

My Uncle's and grandfather all use(d) them, GREAT guns, but you have to keep them clean. One Uncle is NOT good at cleaning and pretty much just wipes a gun down. His jams, no others do. We took that one jamming one and broke it down, cleaned it and re-assembled it, didn't jam for a couple years.
For 100ish yards, they hit like a sledge hammer.

Not a Ruger but a Winchester Trapper in 44.

Shot my lmost recent deer with a Ruger 77/44, it was a bang flop. He never knew what hit him, a Winchester white box 240 grain did the trick.

Years ago I shot a feral pig at about 25 yards with my Ruger Deerfield 44 mag semi auto. It squealed loudly with all 4 feet in the air. I was thinking about using my 38 revolver to finish it off- then the pig ran off. I learned a valuable lesson: shoot it again with the 44 if it is still moving- better to lose some meat than the whole animal. Mel Chung in Hawaii.

I have shot targets at 50y and 100y with my 1962 Ruger 44 carbine. But the buck I shot 3 days ago at 625 yards was with 7mmRemMag 140 gr accubond long range with 3450 fps muzzle
