Living large tonight.

Meat loaf with brown gravy, potato's and onions tossed in olive oil and Johnnys and then baked on a cast iron griddle , and green beans. I'm gonna try some of Jim's 57 sauce on the potato's.

BTW.....My meatloaf doesn't look anything like Bootsfishing's does.

I will have to post a recipe for Montana meatloaf one of these days.

Instead of gravy it has sort of a ketchup, brown sugar, mustard powder topping on it. Pretty derned good.

We had bear beans and pop tarts tonight.

Not at the same time....the pop tarts were for desert. My banana cream pie I bought was still frozen!

Yeah, store bought......but I love any and all banana cream pie.

I top mine with either Bacon or tomato sauce and then put the gravy on when I plate it..
There's usually some mashed potato's to go with the gravy too but tonight I tried something different.

BTW.....the H57 on potato's is pretty dam good....I'll definitely do that again.

Feeling a bit Jewish I guess.

Lol. It’s just chicken soup with matzo balls. I like it.

Had a roasted chicken carcass from last week. Toss it in a pot with some water and simmer for a couple hours. Strain it and put the stock back on the stove on low. Cool the carcass and pick the meat.

Make and cook your matzo balls in the stock. (Directions on box of matzo meal)

When done, take out the balls and set aside.

Add carrot, celery, onion, salt, pepper, thyme, or whatever you like to the stock and simmer until it’s as soft as you like.

Finish with a big handful of chopped parsley and the chicken meat.

Put a ball or two in a bowl and ladle the hot soup over.

Just like that, ya Jewish.

Saturday night & Monday night were venison liver n onions + garlic mashed taters !

First time with the deer liver & very good.

Sliced & soaked in buttermilk for 3 days, patted with paper towel to remove most moisture, seasoned flour coating & fried in bacon fat.

smile

Thanks for the description MM.

There was a Jewish family in town many years ago. I guess the store stopped stocking Matzo meal after they left.

A family friend did not like Jews, so he started harassing them. Off to the Marines he went!

Paul, if you are gonna eat deer liver.....it sounds like you did about the best job a person could. Medium rare?

I cooked a hamburger steak and shrimp scampi last night.

Yep Jim, definitely !

It's when you overcook it, that it gets that strong taste & unpleasant pasty texture.

We had chili dogs tonight.

Wife has been gone since Sunday. Daughter is staying with grandma.

Just me and the two Conrad boys tonight. They like chili dogs.

We had some sort of concoction that involved dark turkey meat left over from the fall dinner at church last Sunday, noodles, golden mushroom soup, carrots, celery, cheese, and potato chips on top accompanied by some cranberries that the wife cooked down with sugar - all very good.

Last couple nights we broke out some venison.

Have to say it was the best venison I've had with the exception of tenderloins which are few and far between.

The wife isn't a fan so we get to put a little garlic salt on the venison which I think helps a lot. But these whole muscle steaks were juicy and tenderloin as well as being great light flavor.

The green mountain grill is the bomb for cooking these steaks.
